Available Sedation Options

In addition to traditional anesthetics, we offer two sedation options:

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide (N2O) is a safe, effective gaseous sedation that you breathe through a mask placed over your nose. The sedative effects of N2O allow you to relax but they do not make you fall asleep. You will be able to see, hear and interact with our staff at all times during your procedure. You may feel light-headed, or your extremities may feel either heavy or light while breathing in the sedative. Some patients on N2O may have trouble remembering the procedure itself, however most patients report that they remain aware throughout the procedure. The effects of N2O wear off soon after the mask is removed.

Oral (Conscious) Sedation

Viewpoint Dentistry also offers oral conscious sedation, where a prescription oral sedative may be given.

For Your Safety!

If you choose oral conscious sedation, we will require you to bring a licensed adult driver with you to your appointment. Your driver must stay in our offices while your procedure is underway. We make this requirement for your safety, since it can take several hours for sedatives to completely wear off.
